Dog walking in Brighton.

Brighton Beach is off-leash before 10am and after 7.30pm in summer, and all day from April to October. Sandown Street Beach is off-leash any time, all year. Dendy Park has the big daytime off-leash zone. Elsternwick Park sits right on the Glen Eira border and works both sides. Knowing which spot suits which dog is most of the job.

Where we walk in Brighton.

Across Brighton and Brighton East. From 1 November to 31 March dogs aren't allowed on most Bayside beaches from 10am to 7.30pm, and they must always be on lead within 20 metres of playgrounds, barbecue and picnic areas.

1

Brighton Beach

The iconic one, bathing boxes included. From 1 November to 31 March: off-leash before 10am and after 7.30pm, no dogs in between. Off-leash all day from April to October. Sandown Street Beach, at the northern end, is off-leash any time, all year.

Seasonal times
2

Dendy Park

The daytime alternative when the beach is closed to dogs, in Brighton East. Huge open sportsground grass, mature shade and room to run, on lead near the playgrounds and while sport is on. It isn't fenced.

Daytime off-leash
3

Elsternwick Park (Bayside)

Right on the Bayside–Glen Eira border. Off-leash on the southern ovals outside sport times. The old golf course is now an on-lead nature reserve, and dogs aren't allowed in the fenced lake area.

Part off-leash

Landcox Park is a smaller local option we use for shorter loops, and the Bay Trail (paved foreshore path) is our default for water-shy dogs or wet-weather days. Off-leash rules across Bayside change seasonally, so we check Bayside's beach rules and on-site signage before every walk.

Brighton Beach's dog hours change on 1 November and 1 April. We know the current rules, when to switch to Dendy Park or Sandown Street, and which entrances get busiest.

Still working on recall?

William Street Reserve has a small fenced off-leash area, a Bayside council trial with water taps and granitic sand. The oval beside it isn’t enclosed. As it’s a trial, check the council page before you go.

★ Quick answers

Brighton questions.

Yes, but time-restricted in summer. From 1 November to 31 March dogs can be off-leash before 10am and after 7.30pm, and aren't allowed on the sand from 10am to 7.30pm. From April to October it's off-leash all day. Sandown Street Beach, at Brighton's northern end, is off-leash any time, all year.

Dendy Park in Brighton East has the biggest open off-leash grass nearby. It's huge and unfenced, on lead near the playgrounds and while sport is on, with drinking fountains by the south playground. It's our go-to for high-energy dogs when the beach is restricted. For sand, Sandown Street Beach is off-leash any time, all year.

Yes. On the Bayside side, dogs are off-leash on the southern ovals outside sport times. Dogs aren't allowed in the fenced lake area, and the old golf course is now Elsternwick Park Nature Reserve, which is on-lead only. It sits right on the Bayside and Glen Eira border, so we walk there from both the Brighton and Elsternwick sides.

Yes. Door-to-door pick-up and drop-off is included in every Brighton walk at no extra cost. Brighton is on our main Bayside pick-up route, so pick-ups are efficient and on time.

Yes. Brighton has plenty of inland options. Dendy Park, Landcox Park and the tree-lined streets south of North Road are ideal for water-shy dogs. The Bay Trail is a paved path that lets your dog enjoy the coast without touching sand.

Solo walks are $70 for 45 minutes or $80 for 60 minutes, and a 2 to 3 hour Adventure is $79, door to door with the van ride included. Pick-up and drop-off in Brighton are included. See full pricing, or everything we do across Bayside.
