Dog walking across Monash.
Creek corridors, big reserves and proper backyards. Monash redrew its off-leash boundaries in 2023 and plenty of locals are still walking to the old map — we're not.

We walk the current map.
The 2023 boundaries, not the old ones
Fourteen new off-leash areas, eight changed, and some — like Damper Creek — got a lot smaller. We work off the current council map, not habit.
Creek trails, not just ovals
Monash's best walking is along the creek corridors and powerline easements — narrow, shaded, full of smells, and far more interesting for a dog than a lap of a sports field.
Constant sight, every time
Monash's Dog Control Order requires the handler to keep the dog in constant sight and recall promptly. On a winding creek path that takes real attention. It's the job.
Melbourne's green east.
Monash is the biggest and greenest council we work in. Fifteen suburbs running from Oakleigh out to Wheelers Hill, with mature street trees, generous blocks, and a network of creek reserves and easement corridors that connect most of it together. Dogs here mostly have a backyard — which changes what a walk is for.
It's less about burning off energy and more about stimulation. A Monash dog that's been in the yard all day doesn't need a lap of the oval, they need somewhere new to sniff. That's why our routes here lean on the creek corridors and the linear reserves rather than the nearest patch of grass.
Worth knowing: council rewrote the off-leash policy in July 2023. Fourteen new areas opened, eight changed, and several long-standing spots were cut back. If someone tells you a park is off-leash because it always has been, check the signage.
Our regular Monash routes.
All designated off-leash areas under the current Monash boundaries. Several changed on 1 July 2023, so we check the council map and on-site signage before every walk.
Damper Creek Reserve
Mount Waverley. A 2.4km return creek walk with bridges and crossings — one of the best sniffing routes in the council. The off-leash zone was redrawn in 2023, so leads stay on outside the signed section.
Part off-leashJack Edwards Reserve
Oakleigh South. Its off-leash boundary changed in September 2023, separately to the July policy update — which makes it one of the most misremembered spots in Monash. Worth reading the sign every time.
Boundary changedJordan Reserve
Chadstone. Our anchor stop at the Oakleigh and Chadstone end of the run, and one of the off-leash areas confirmed under the 2023 boundaries. Handy for dogs we collect on the Hughesdale side.
Off-leash zoneFregon Reserve
Clayton. A designated off-leash area under the current boundaries and our main Clayton stop — useful for the Notting Hill and Clayton South dogs on the same pick-up loop.
Off-leash zoneHighview Park
Glen Waverley. One of the off-leash areas confirmed in the 2023 review, and where most of our Glen Waverley and Mount Waverley dogs get their off-lead time on an eastern run.
Off-leash zoneThe powerline corridors
Monash opened three long off-leash stretches under the powerline easements in 2023: Bristol Court to Ivanhoe Street, Legana Street to Toombah Street, and Pamela Street to Smyth Street. Straight, open and largely undiscovered.

“Our two labs go on Chilly's adventures and love it. Like all thinking beings, they have their quirks, and Jess went out of her way to get to know our dogs, build trust with them (and us!) and really thought about the right group for them to join so everyone could be free & happy.”
Monash FAQs.
Yes. Monash adopted a new off-leash policy on 1 July 2023 that created 14 new off-leash areas and changed the boundaries of 8 existing ones, with a further change to Jack Edwards Reserve in September 2023. Some areas grew and some shrank, so the spot you used two years ago may not be off-leash today.
Yes. Damper Creek Reserve in Mount Waverley is one of our regular Monash routes, and the full creek path is about 2.4km return. The off-leash section was redrawn in 2023, so we keep dogs on lead outside the current signed boundary.
Under the Monash Dog Control Order, in a designated off-leash area you must carry a short leash, be able to bring your dog under control promptly, remain in constant sight of your dog, and pick up after them. Everywhere else in Monash, dogs must be on lead.
We cover Oakleigh, Oakleigh East, Oakleigh South, Hughesdale, Huntingdale, Chadstone, Clayton, Clayton South, Notting Hill, Mount Waverley, Glen Waverley, Wheelers Hill, Mulgrave, Ashwood and Burwood. If you're on a boundary street, ask anyway — our routes often already pass you.
Solo walks are $70 for 45 minutes or $80 for 60 minutes, and a 2 to 3 hour Adventure is $79, door to door with the van ride included. Pick-up and drop-off in Monash are included. See full pricing.
