Dog walking across Kingston.
Thirteen kilometres of foreshore from Mentone down to Carrum, and in summer the sand closes to dogs at 10am. Kingston dogs are morning dogs — we build the run around that.

We're on the sand before ten.
Early runs, all summer
From November to March the sand shuts to dogs at 10am. Our Kingston pick-ups start early so your dog gets real beach time, not a consolation lap of the car park.
We know the 24/7 strip
North Mentone between Charman and Plummer is off-leash around the clock, all year. It's the one place in Kingston a midday summer walk still works — on the sand, not the path.
And the no-dog zone
Bay Street to Mordialloc Creek is banned to dogs 24 hours, sand, car parks, reserve and all. Plenty of people walk into it by accident. We don't.
The long southern foreshore.
Kingston has the most continuous stretch of dog-walkable beach in Melbourne's south — an almost unbroken run of sand from Mentone through Parkdale, Mordialloc, Aspendale, Edithvale, Chelsea and Bonbeach down to Carrum. On a winter morning with the tide out, it's hard to beat.
Inland it's a different council entirely. Moorabbin, Clarinda, Heatherton and Dingley are flat, open and green, with big reserves and fenced dog areas that suit dogs who need a secure space rather than a long straight run.
The catch is the calendar. Kingston runs two sets of foreshore rules, summer and winter, and the summer one is strict: no dogs on the sand at all between 10am and 7.30pm from November through March. Get the timing right and it's the best walking in the south. Get it wrong and you're fined.
Kingston's beaches and reserves.
Summer (1 Nov – 31 Mar): off-leash on sand sunrise to 10am, no dogs 10am–7.30pm, on-leash 7.30pm to sunrise. Winter (1 Apr – 31 Oct): on-leash 11am–3pm, off-leash all other times.
North Mentone Beach
Between Charman Road and Plummer Road — off-leash 24 hours, all year. Sand only, not the path above, so leads stay on until we're down on the beach. Our default summer spot.
Off-leash 24/7Parkdale Beach
Quieter than Mentone and easier parking. Standard foreshore rules apply, so it's an early-morning stop in summer and an all-day option outside 11am–3pm in winter.
Seasonal timesMordialloc Foreshore
North of High Street follows the usual seasonal rules. Bay Street to Mordialloc Creek is a 24-hour no-dog zone — sand, car parks, vegetation and Peter Scullin Reserve. Beach Road shared path only, on lead.
No-dog zone southKevin Hayes Reserve
Mordialloc. A fully fenced off-lead area with dog exercise equipment — the safest option in Kingston for dogs still building recall, and useful when the beach is closed to dogs.
Fully fencedBicentennial Park
Chelsea. One of four Kingston sites with dog exercise equipment installed, and a solid inland alternative for Chelsea, Bonbeach and Edithvale dogs during summer beach hours.

Moorabbin. Large open reserve with dog exercise equipment — the go-to for our inland Kingston dogs in Moorabbin, Clarinda and Heatherton who aren't on a beach run.

“Couldn't recommend Chilly's enough. My dog gets more excited to see Jess than me these days! If you're looking for the best dog walker in the business, look no further.”
Kingston FAQs.
From 1 November to 31 March, dogs can be off-leash on the sand from sunrise until 10am. Between 10am and 7.30pm dogs are not allowed on the sand at all. From 7.30pm until sunrise they're allowed on-leash. This applies to Mentone, Parkdale, Mordialloc, Aspendale, Edithvale, Chelsea, Bonbeach and Carrum.
Yes — the northern end of Mentone Beach, between Charman Road and Plummer Road, is off-leash 24 hours a day all year round. It applies to the sand only, not the path above it, so dogs need to be on lead until they're down on the beach.
The Mordialloc foreshore between Bay Street and Mordialloc Creek is a 24-hour no-dog zone. That includes the sand, the vegetated areas, the car parks and Peter Scullin Reserve. Dogs are allowed on-leash on the Beach Road shared path only.
From 1 April to 31 October, dogs must be on-leash on the sand between 11am and 3pm. Outside those hours they can be off-leash on the sand. Winter is by far the easier season to walk a dog on the Kingston foreshore.
Solo walks are $70 for 45 minutes or $80 for 60 minutes, and a 2 to 3 hour Adventure is $79, door to door with the van ride included. Pick-up and drop-off in Kingston are included. See full pricing.
